SoftDrops were used to deliver stunning, realistic cityscape views right outside the window, day or night. So convincing, you’d never know it was a backdrop.

@fernandoarguellesasc was one of the first #Cinematographers to use #RoscoSoftDrop shortly after we launched the product, and he was enthusiastic to use it again in 2021 on the post-apocalyptic horror series #FearTheWalkingDead. The set was full-circle, so the filmmakers needed a background that could envelop the set and enable them to shoot at any angle. The perfect solution? Two SoftDrops - one showing a red sky and the other a yellow sky with clouds - that covered nearly 200 degrees of the set. Swipe to see both SoftDrops in use!

@fernandoarguellesasc fue uno de los primeros #DirectoresDeFotografía en usar #RoscoSoftDrop poco después de que lanzamos el producto, y estaba entusiasmado por usarlo nuevamente en 2021 en la serie de terror postapocalíptico #FearTheWalkingDead. El set era circular, por lo que los cineastas necesitaban un fondo que pudiera envolver todo el escenario y permitirles filmar desde cualquier ángulo. ¿La solución perfecta? Did you know that the extravagant mansion in #ManVsBee with huge glass doors and windows looks out on a Rosco SoftDrop? To shoot the interior scenes, filmmakers built their set inside a sound stage and used a #RoscoSoftDrop to provide the lusciously realistic backyard outside of its large windows. This SoftDrop is available to rent out of our Madrid, Spain location, and you can watch “Man Vs Bee” on #Netflix. #RoscoDigitalImaging

For Pedro Almodovar’s film #TheRoomNextDoor, fil

For Pedro Almodovar’s film #TheRoomNextDoor, filmmakers constructed three New York City studio sets - Martha’s Apartment, Ingrid’s Apartment and the Hospital Room - on a soundstage in Madrid using #RoscoSoftDrops. #ProductionDesigner Inbal Weinberg (@inbaldada) and #Cinematographer Edu Grau ASC AEC (@eduardgrau) preferred a photographic backing solution over a greenscreen for many reasons: “Since VFX work happens after principal photography, we were worried about our lack of control over the final composited image. We felt that the relationship between the background image and actors would seem more natural if we used a photographic backing on set. And we also thought that the actors would feel more comfortable acting against a large NYC skyline image, rather than against a chroma green vacuum.”

All three of these Rosco SoftDrops are available for rent from our Madrid, Spain warehouse.

You may recognize this dreamy New York City skylin

You may recognize this dreamy New York City skyline from the 2019 film #IsntItRomantic starring Rebel Wilson. #Director Todd Strauss-Schulson, #ProductionDesigner Sharon Seymour, #ArtDirector Doug Huszti, and #Cinematographer Simon Duggan worked with the #RoscoDigitalImaging team to create this Day/Night #RoscoSoftDrop for Natalie’s (Wilson) apartment. Rosco’s @philipgreenstreet strategically located himself on a rooftop at dusk to capture the night shots of Midtown Manhattan and the Queensboro Bridge. He then returned at six o’clock the next morning to capture the day shots. Afterward, the RDI team shifted several of the buildings in Phil’s original images. The digital artisans at RDI completed the idealized New York City backdrop by boosting the overall color-saturation of the image and then filled the bright blue sky with cotton candy clouds.
